Stephen Lloyd is the Administrative Partner at the Vancouver law firm of Paine Edmonds LLP. He began his litigation career at a boutique law firm in North Vancouver before joining the firm of Paine Edmonds LLP in 2003. His practice has been focused on insurance litigation, although he has experience representing clients in a variety of other areas including employment law, contractual disputes, and wills and estates. Stephen has extensive trial experience in the courts of BC, as well as seeking resolution of disputes through alternative dispute resolution, such as formal and informal mediation.
Cannabis law is an exciting and evolving area for both solicitors and litigators, on city/municipal, provincial and federal levels. The end of prohibition presents opportunities and challenges to lawyers across the country, and Stephen is excited to be part of this historic shift in our society, both culturally and legally. Even prior to the federal legalization of cannabis Stephen has been working to educate himself on the politics, laws and regulations surrounding the cultivation and use of cannabis. In fact, the medicinal use of cannabis has been an ever-growing issue in his practice as it pertains to not only insurance coverages, but also to the stigma faced by patients. Stephen’s passion for the politics surrounding medicinal cannabis also comes from a deeply personal level given his experiences with the use of medical cannabis in his own family for the treatment of migraine disorder, Crohn’s disease and cancer.
