Prince and princess of pot are expanding their dispensary empire, whether it’s legal or not

Jodie Emery struts through the hazy hallway of Cannabis Culture’s flagship Toronto store, through a 15-person deep checkout line, and then past the extracts, pre-rolled joints and display jars of bud into the lounge area where a group of pot enthusiasts is sparking up. It is just after noon on a Wednesday. The 32-year-old Cannabis Culture owner makes several attempts to call her husband, Marc, a famous marijuana legalization advocate, to wake him up. The Prince of Pot likes to sleep in, she explains, because he works past midnight, which is closing time at his shop in Toronto’s gay village downtown. Human rights board orders insurer to pay medical marijuana costs in precedent-setting case The Canadian [...]

‘WEED’ Launches On The Toronto Stock Exchange

As of Wednesday, traders on the Toronto Stock Exchange can buy and sell "WEED." That’s the new stock ticker symbol for Canopy Growth, an Ontario-based medical marijuana company that bills itself as “the largest legal cannabis business in the world.” "Patients, investors and Canadians as a whole are more accepting of the cannabis sector today than ever before," Canopy CEO Bruce Linton said in a statement. "This is owed to a lot of factors, but we are proud to have played our part in introducing a once-stigmatized topic into Main Street and Bay Street conversations.” Canopy has done more than help reduce the stigma around weed -- it has made some people rich. The company [...]

With the marijuana industry blazing, production space is hard to find

The booming medical marijuana business is desperate to expand, so Canada’s cannabis growers are moving into spaces deserted by shrinking industries such as oil and gas and manufacturing. In June of 2013, Mark Zekulin, president of Tweed Inc. (a subsidiary of publicly traded Canopy Growth Corp., Canada’s largest marijuana producer), walked into Dennis Staples’s office with a business proposition: to turn a 470,000-square-foot former chocolate factory into the future home for millions of dollars in marijuana plants. It took just half an hour to convince Mr. Staples, then the mayor of Smiths Falls, Ont., to convert the town’s abandoned Hershey chocolate factory into a medical marijuana grow-op. Tweed Inc. has converted the former Hershey chocolate [...]

Organigram (OGRMF): Strong Growth with Numerous Catalysts Ahead — CFN Media

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Jan 30, 2017) - CFN Media Group ("CFN Media"), the leading agency and digital media network dedicated to legal cannabis, today announced publication of an article covering Organigram Holdings, Inc. (OTCQB: OGRMF) (TSX VENTURE: OGI). One launched an IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Canada’s biggest marijuana company even hit a billion dollar valuation. “It’s the biggest year so far and I expect in 2017 you will see a bigger year,” said Graham Saunders, head of capital markets origination at Canaccord Genuity, which led seven of the 22 capital raises in the sector last year.
