Business Challenges and Opportunities in Cross-Border Relations
(Panel Discussion) The full legalization of cannabis in Canada puts this country and its industry on a very different path from the U.S., given that there are many states along with the U.S. federal government that still criminalize its possession. And while there are growing opportunities for bilateral trade between Canada and other countries, considerable challenges remain in creating an international market. What are the differences and similarities between the regulatory regimes of both countries as well as elsewhere in the world, and the challenges these represent that would affect cannabis producers and distributors who are seeking partnerships and cross-border investment? What impact does full legalization have for producers seeking new avenues for export and trade under both NAFTA and other trade agreements? Will we face claims of unfair competition from pot-friendly States? Legal action from criminalized ones? And how easy will it be for grow-op experts to get visas?
