At about 4:15 am on June 15, police responded to the early-morning reports of a — there’s no other way to describe it — wood fight (!?!?!). Four men were allegedly fighting on the street swinging pieces of wood at each other, according to the Nottingham Police.

For almost anyone else, that would have been embarrassing enough, but the disturbance ended up attracting police to the group’s substantial stash of weed. After a bit of an investigation, the authorities found 100-plus cannabis plants that they estimate are worth £100,000.

The weed was seized, the four men arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and the entire lot taken into police custody.

“Violent crime and illegal drugs have no place on our streets and we are committed to investigating all reports made to us thoroughly,” Detective Inspector Chanelle Whitney says in a police statement.

Whitney encouraged people to come forward with any additional information or dash-cam footage they may have to come forward. “We are operating as usual despite the coronavirus pandemic and the positive police work shown in the early hours of this morning demonstrates our continued efforts to clamp down on crime across our city and county,” she added.
