Feeling like Indica, Sativa, Herb, Honey or Green? Capture the feeling through the Colorado Disability Funding Committee auction for weed-themed licence plates.

In a pun-filled, jam-packed Facebook post last week, the committee sent a shout-out to charitable types looking spruce up their standard licence plates.

“ISIT420? The #ColoradoDisabilityFundingCommitte had the TEGRIDY to STASH away some great HERB related license plate configurations and is making them available to you,” noted the post. “Don’t be GREEN with envy because your neighbor GOTWAX and HONEY, bid on a plate and support people with disabilities! Colorado GANJA themed license plates could make you as HAPPY as your 100% HEMP t-shirt. Leave ya SATIVA and INDICA, put down the BONG, use our HASHtags to follow along.”

Indeed, the post includes each of the 14 weed-themed vanity licence plates that are up for grabs.

The auction event page explains that by bidding, “you are buying the rights to use this license plate configuration on your official Colorado license plate. You will be responsible for paying standard DMV registration fees when you register the plate configuration to your vehicle.”

According to Merry Jane, bids for most of the plates kicked off at US$420 ($525), although some got chugging along at US$250 ($312.50).

A quick check at about noon on Apr. 6 — almost five days into the bidding wars — showed that Herb, sadly, had some catching up to do, having attracted a top bid of US$440 ($550) by that time. Conversely, ISIT420 and TEGRIDY— referring to the fictional weed company in South Park — were on fire, chi-chinging bids of US$6,440 ($8,050) and US$2,060 ($2,575), respectively.

Overall, seven of the 14 bids were in the US$500 ($625) to US$1,000 ($1,250) range at that time.

Out-of-staters can feel free to bid and win, but, unfortunately, the plates are only official in Colorado, Merry Jane reports.

It’s all in fun and for a good cause, of course, but the committee also emphasizes on the auction site about the need to follow the law. “DON’T DRIVE HIGH! PLEASE USE CANNABIS RESPONSIBLY, WITHIN THE LIMITS OF ALL COLORADO LAWS,” the committee emphasizes on each bid page.
