More details expected when brand launches May 17.
Details are scant, but it appears that M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot fame is poised to release a cannabis line next week.
That seems to be the case given the Instagram post and website featuring a laughing green clown with yellow eyes against a cannabis leaf background and a similarly succinct teaser: Clown Cannabis — coming May 17th.
No word, not even a hint, as to what sorts of products the line will include.
Crahan, percussionist for the heavy metal band out of Des Moines, seems to have been himself plenty busy during the pandemic-related lockdowns, restrictions and disruptions, according to Kerrang!
In March, he released his first-ever non-fungible token (NFT), which went up for auction on Facebook. The clip “has been minted as an exclusive NFT and will be retired from any future use,” Rock and Metal News reported at the time.
But if weed is not your bag, a Slipknot tweet from late February announced the (then) availability of a box set featuring “Clown’s Iowa Shine (available one time only) and No. 9 Reserve.” Quantities, the tweet cautioned, “are extremely limited.”
Visitors to the Crown Cannabis website can sign up for the brand’s newsletter and click on the widgets provided to follow the various social media accounts, according to Loudwire.
It’s not clear how distribution might work since recreational cannabis is not legal in Iowa. In fact, a first offence for possessing any amount is a misdemeanour charge punishable by up to six months in jail and a US$1,000 ($1,210) fine.
But that has not dampened the enthusiasm of most commenters on Instagram who are waiting with bated breath. “Lets get Lit Lit Lit!,” noted one pumped fan of Slipknot… and, presumably, cannabis.
Bands and cannabis are certainly nothing new, but some groups or their members appear to be ready to get into the selling game. Earlier this year, for example, The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne unveiled the new Love Yer Brain gummies during a “bubble” concert on 4/20 in Oklahoma City.
