According to reports, the bust was part of Operation Tara, an anti-drug operation from Ireland’s national police service.

Operation Tara began on July 1 and aims to “disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels — international, national, local — involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.”

“Operation Tara will have a strong focus on tackling street-level dealing in cities, towns and villages across the country,” states a release from the An Garda Síochána.

Recreational cannabis remains illegal in Ireland. Earlier this year, patients and advocates formed Patients for Safe Access, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the country’s medical cannabis laws and overcoming research barriers.
