“And I’m like Sha’Carri, smoke ’em on and off the track.”
U.S. sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson gets a shout-out on Drake’s latest album, Certified Lover Boy.
Last month, Richardson returned to the track for the first time since the suspension at the Prefontaine Classic, facing the Jamaican trio that won bronze, silver and gold at the 100-metre dash at Toyko. Richardson finished last in the event but emphasized she will be back in top form soon.
“It was a great return back to the sport,” Richardson told NBC Sports after the race. “I wanted to be able to come and perform having a month off. … Not upset at myself at all. This is one race. I’m not done. You know what I’m capable of.”
Richardson is not the only athlete Drake references on the album. Per Bleacher Report, Tiger Woods, Kawhi Leonard, Allen Iverson and Giannis Antetokounmpo, whose Milwaukee Bucks won the most recent NBA Championship, are also mentioned.
Earlier this year, it emerged that Drake and Canopy Growth Corp. were going separate ways. In 2019, Canopy and Drake announced a joint venture, More Life Growth Company, but the deal fizzled out before any products hit the shelves.
