Testing & Sampling Standardization and the Increased Complexity of Testing Edibles, Extracts and Topicals
Legalization of cannabis in Canada has come with quality control regulations of products prior to consumption by public. Several tests must be performed on cannabis samples to measure the level of pesticides, heavy metals, microbial contaminations, residual solvents and potency and to assure that their levels meet the requirements set by Health Canada. While some labs have developed validated methods to analyze flower and oil samples, the recent introduction of edibles, extracts and topicals have presented new challenges to analytical testing labs. In this panel, we will discuss these challenges and also the need to standardize the sampling and testing methods as much as possible to achieve higher quality standards in the Canadian cannabis market.
