Mr. Adams joined CALA in 2017 after more than 30 years with the Federal Government, in particular, Health Canada (HC) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Mr. Adams started working for Health Canada as a bench chemist then held progressively senior positions managing laboratories and laboratory networks. HC required extensive testing of its medical marijuana including testing for cannabinoids, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contamination. The end result is a well-characterized product that authorised persons could use with absolute confidence in the quality of the product.
While at the CFIA, Mr. Adams was a member of the Laboratories’ Executive Management team that committed to and achieved the goal of accrediting all CFIA laboratories to ISO 17025.
From his extensive experience as an analytical chemist, laboratory manager, and laboratory executive Mr. Adams understands the challenges faced by analytical laboratories and the importance of quality assurance and technical competence in a laboratory. He has first-hand experience of the value of accreditation to ISO 17025 and the risks of using laboratories that are not accredited by independent third parties, such as CALA, to internationally recognized standards (ISO 17025).
