Mr. Adams is President and CEO of CALA Inc., an internationally recognized leader in providing the highest-quality accreditation of laboratories.

Mr. Adams joined CALA in 2017 after more than 30 years with the Federal Government, in particular, Health Canada (HC) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Mr. Adams started working for Health Canada as a bench chemist then held progressively senior positions managing laboratories and laboratory networks. Among the positions he held at HC are Director, Office of Controlled Substances (OCS) and Director, Drug Analysis Service (DAS). As Director – DAS, Mr. Adams was responsible for HC’s laboratories that analyzed seized controlled substances in support of police services across the country. He was also responsible for HC’s medical marijuana procurement including negotiating the contract with HC’s marijuana supplier and responsibility for the production, testing, and distribution of HC’s medical marijuana to approved persons. HC required extensive testing of its medical marijuana including testing for cannabinoids, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contamination. The end result is a well-characterized product that authorised persons could use with absolute confidence in the quality of the product.

While at the CFIA, Mr. Adams was a member of the Laboratories’ Executive Management team that committed to and achieved the goal of accrediting all CFIA laboratories to ISO 17025.

From his extensive experience as an analytical chemist, laboratory manager, and laboratory executive Mr. Adams understands the challenges faced by analytical laboratories and the importance of quality assurance and technical competence in a laboratory. He has first-hand experience of the value of accreditation to ISO 17025 and the risks of using laboratories that are not accredited by independent third parties, such as CALA, to internationally recognized standards (ISO 17025).
