Melanie Cole
Melanie Cole is a Partner at Aird & Berlis and member of the firm’s Capital Markets, Corporate/Commercial and Cannabis Groups. Utilizing her corporate finance expertise, Melanie helps cannabis-sector clients take their business to the next level by assisting with mergers and acquisitions, financing and go-public transactions, including initial public offerings, reverse takeovers and qualifying transactions, as well as resulting public listings on the TSX, TSXV and CSE.
Melanie provides a broad range of services to participants in the fast-growing cannabis and psychedelics industries. Her versatile practice within the corporate finance and capital markets sector has been critical in representing a broad range of clients in both the medicinal and recreational cannabis markets, including licensed producers, processors, distributors, investors, extraction companies, cannabis technology companies and various ancillary service providers. Melanie helps her clients navigate through the regulatory regime in Canada. Melanie also has experience negotiating various commercial agreements in the cannabis and psychedelic sectors, including collaboration, joint venture and supply agreements.
Melanie regularly advises both domestic and international clients, ranging from small start-ups to large public companies. Melanie is an active member of the International Cannabis Bar Association and a frequent and sought-after expert and speaker in the cannabis sector.
Outside of her practice, Melanie is passionate about giving back to the community through her ongoing involvement in the charitable sector and by acting as a mentor to junior lawyers. Melanie serves as a Director of the Eating Disorders Foundation of Canada – a charity committed to raising funds to support evidence-based care for, research into and increased awareness about eating disorders in Canada. She is also Past Chair of the Breast Cancer Support Fund.
